The Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World was a gift of friendship from the people of France to the people of the United States in 1886 and is recognized as a universal symbol of freedom and democracy. In 1883, Emma Lazarus had written a poem entitled The New Colossus and donated it to an auction raising funds for the construction of the Statue's pedestal. The image on this notepad is from a postcard from 1902.
