The Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World was a gift of friendship from the people of France to the people of the United States in 1886 and is recognized as a universal symbol of freedom and democracy.  In 1883, Emma Lazarus had written a poem entitled The New Colossus and donated it to an auction raising funds for the construction of the Statue's pedestal.  The image on this notebook is from a postcard from 1902.

The inside of the front cover has the text of the New Colossus, Emma Lazarus's famous poem that sits at the base of the statue.  Inside the back cover there is a history of the Statue of Liberty.
